Texas Rangers Relief Pitcher Jeremy Jeffress Arrested for DWI
Multiple outlets are reporting that Jeffress is being held in a Dallas County jail on a $500 bond. 105.3 The Fan CBS Radio is reporting that Jeffress has been arrested for DUI as opposed to DWI.
Jeffress has been suspended twice in his career for failing drug tests. Once in 2007 and was suspended 50 games and the second came two years later bringing a 100 game suspension. It is important to note that those suspensions came as a minor leaguer and MLB does not test for drugs at the major league level.
The Rangers issued the following statement:
The Texas Rangers are aware of the situation involving Jeremy Jeffress that took place early this morning. At this time we are in the process of gathering information and have no further comment.
Jeffress was acquired at the trade deadline, along with Jonathan Lucroy in a deal that sent Lewis Brinson among others to Milwaukee. If the Rangers decided to suspend Jeffress, or worse, DFA him, Tanner Scheppers would be the leading candidate to replace him in the bullpen. Scheppers is currently rehabbing and making his way back from injury.
If the Rangers decide to go outside the organization, assuming Jeffress is not available, Tommy Hunter is a name that has surfaced around the internet. Hunter was released by the Indians yesterday and is a free agent.
Maybe the Rangers can nab Hunter and he can shine just so the Indians and their fans can hate us for more reasons other than Lucroy burning them earlier this month.
