A.J. Is Official
Now, to the good stuff…
He is coming off of a career offensive year (.278/.326/.501, 27 HR, 77 RBI, 133 H). He may not repeat the numbers, but I feel confident that he’ll contribute where Soto cannot. I’m more concerned with whether he will have steady defense or not. One thing that plagued the Rangers last year was giving up too many stolen bases. This has not been a strong suit for A.J., so that also remains a mystery that will have to be answered in the season. Overall, though, I’m glad we made a solid move to improve the catcher position.
Many fans have expressed concern about A.J. and his attitude, even going so far as to cursing Jon Daniels for making the move. You know what? I’m not worried. He did have a right to be upset at getting the ASG snub last year. Did he have a bit of a ‘tude? Sure, but he wasn’t wrong. I believe he will fit in fine with the rest of the guys and will like his newest baseball family.
I implore fans to give him a chance and see what happens. I think we will be in for a pleasant surprise.
